I'm not usually a faction (as opposed to fiction) reader, but am thoroughly glad I picked this book up - if it was me and not Diomedes! - when Rivercassini gave us free run of her books one day (far, far too long ago).
The 'story' looked at is the identity of the mole in the household of the French ambassador to London at the time of Elizabeth, when the Scottish Mary was a 'guest' of the English throne while her son ruled in Scotland.
It is a fascinating look at what is known, what is thought to be known, and what has been written about both at the time and since, examining the evidence for who exactly is involved, and pointing out possible errors in previous supositions - including, refreshingly, the author's own.
While of undoubted interest to a historian - which I am not! - the book is eminently readable by a novice, and I thoroughly recommend it for anyone wanting a little more serious reading.
