Part of the parcel from the very generous Livrecache. I've always loved Margaret Drabble's work and I haven't read this one. Some people find her slow, but I maintain she's not an action-authot, she's a psychology author, and the level she looks at her characters is fascinating. Going to enjoy this one for sure.
I read this book in haste, and in bits crammed around work lunch breaks, time stolen in the early morning and the like. Perhaps because of this, I felt right to the end that I never really got to know the characters. I've read other of Drabble's books and have enjoyed them more, perjhaps because I read them when I was in a more ordered frame of mind. Still, I managed to enjoy it, and I will re-read it in a couple of months after a few other books and see how it sits then. Anyone who could write something like "Waterfall" has a lot going for her.
