I could hear Sidney Poitier in my head as I read this book; I can only imagine how good the audiobook is with his wonderful voice enveloping and infiltrating every one of your senses.

This is a man who has spent a lot of time analyzing and understanding his life and life in general, without ever failing to live life to the fullest. Two themes that resonated: 1) never apologize for, or be limited by who you are; and 2) do everything you can to the best of your ability, because if you don't, you are showing disrespect to yourself, your past, and your future.

I also thought his theory of opposites was intriguing: conflict is necessary for the survival of Nature. Nature feeds off of the energy created when opposites clash; it needs that energy to sustain itself. We, and all our small- and large-scale hostilities, are only energy-producing elements in a universe we can't even begin to comprehend. It was a very interesting and thought-provoking book.

Thank you for helping me with my display and give-away for Black History Month. I am making a display about finding "hidden" stories of blacks both in history and in everyday life. This will be at the National Park site where I work. I hope the visitors enjoy the display and take the book they admire most. If, perhaps due to weather, we don't have many visitors in February we do have a special school program in April (One Community- One Book- for students) and I will attempt to make bookcrossing books available then as well. (Our theme for April is the Underground Railroad)

Released 16 yrs ago (1/31/2008 UTC) at Allegheny Portage Railroad National Historic Site in Gallitzin, Pennsylvania USA
