Not my favourite author but maybe it's because I'm a woman and Bukowski is a an old misogynist. He has a big following amongst those who think he's the best American novelist from skid row. Full of rage, a career alcoholic and abused throughout his childhood, this is a thinly disguised autobiographical work; happy it ain't but undeniably powerful and beautifully written.
