I haven't entirely finished the book, but don't think I am going to do so. The author spent the late 1980s and early 1990s investigating and meeting some of the many homeless living in caves, tunnels, abandoned subway stations and other structures underground in New York City. Many of the author's subjects are addicts, abused, and have reached the end of their limits before moving underground. I was interested in the first few chapters, then found the stories repitious and depressing, so began sampling from other parts of the book. Chapters can easily be read alone. This is a world I've never lived in (Thank God) and little imagined. An interesting, but certainly not uplifting read.
