I devoured this book. It took a couple of days but the Bombay Roberts creates is so vibrant you can practically smell it. It's a fictionalised autobiography, but the life he's lived - escaping a maximum-security jail, becoming a slum doctor in India, learnign Hindi and Marathi, hugging bears, becoming a gangster and passport-faker and smuggling guns into Afghanistan ... it's just so rich, so full, so dramatic.

The characters are lovingly drawn - I laughed out loud at some of Prabaker's expressions. I really didn't want to say goodbye at the end of the book. I know Mira Nair is directing a film with Johnny Depp as the protagonist. I really hope it doesn't destroy my mental image of the story and the people!
