This book contains a selection of short stories and poetry by emerging New Zealand writers. It was published to promote NZ writers and books and was released in New Zealand Book Month (September 2006). I enjoyed all of the stories and was most impressed with the writing of 17 year old Phoebe Wright. "The Life Coach" was probably my favourite story and had me laughing out loud.

Although, generally, I prefer novels to short stories, I was glad to have some New Zealand authors to read while on my travels around North Island. I felt none of the stories related to what I experienced as a foreigner, visiting NZ, so I would not recommend it for insight before you travel there. I too quite enjoyed "The Life Coach" by Philippa Swan, by far, the best story in the collection. I deliberately brought the book back to the states with me to release here and I am curious to know how readers on a different shore will view it. I think like me, most readers will be expecting to have a better feel for Kiwis afterwards and I frankly, don't think they will.
