This was an interesting glimpse into how class and color--rich, poor, white, black, mixed--shaped the cast of characters from the Civil War to the 1950s. Its final message is that we only see color when others remind us of it or when we remind ourselves of it. Color shouldn't matter; only love matters.

Thank you for helping me with my display and give-away for Black History Month. I am making a display about finding "hidden" stories of blacks both in history and in everyday life. This will be at the National Park site where I work. I hope the visitors enjoy the display and take the book they admire most. If, perhaps due to weather, we don't have many visitors in February we do have a special school program in April (One Community- One Book- for students) and I will attempt to make bookcrossing books available then as well. (Our theme for April is the Underground Railroad)
