Just started to read this Agatha Christie that was written in 1929. I find that knowing when the book was written helps me better understand the "contemporary" setting. This is my first Tommy and Tuppence mystery; so far they are charming.

When I started reading this book, I thought Tommy and Tuppence were a nice, retired couple of a certain age. It soon became apparent that they were young (he 32, she 25), fun, and well versed in classic detective novels--so much so that they took on the personas of said fictional detectives to solve their cases, including the persona of the infamous Hercule Poirot. I was able to solve a couple of the cases myself, so that made me feel quite smart :)

CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:

Now in Mom's possession to be read "sometime." She's never read an Agatha Christie book before, though she does enjoy watching them on TV. We saw the first part of "By the Pricking of My Thumbs" on PBS last week; it features Tommy and Tuppence and Miss Jane Marple and seems to be set about 20 years after this book. Looking forward to part two!
