Setterfield's debut novel has plenty of the suspense, surprise and satisfaction that come with a wonderful tale.

Margaret, a young bookseller and amateur biographer, is chosen by Miss Winter as the recipient of the secret of her tragic past. She reveals, layer by layer, the mesmerizing tale of the Angelfield family that includes murder, insanity, feral twins, a ghost and a fire. Margaret's own past in some ways parallels Miss Winter's, leading them both through the blaze of memory into the truth.

I really liked this book. I would like to say that I actually guessed the answer at the end, but I didn't.

Quite a complicated tale so you will really need to think about it. It is not light so if you are going to read it be prepared for a hard slog. Having said that though it is a rewarding read.

As it is a new release I will probably release it to someone else.
