Charley Benetto is a broken man,his life destroted by alcohol and regret. He loses his job. He leaves his family. He hits rock bottom after discovering he won't be invited to his only daughter's wedding. And he decides to take his own life.

Charley takes a midnight ride to his small hometown:his final journey. But as he staggers into his old house, he makes an astonishing discovery. His mother who died eight years earlier - is there, and welcomes Charley home as if nothing has ever happened.

What follows is the one seemingly ordinary day so many of us yearn for: a chance to make good with a lost parent,to explain the family secrets and to seek forgiveness.

Snaffled this from BellaMack's 'You Gotta Read This!' BookBag. I've read 'Tuesdays with Morrie' and like the look of this one. Thanks for sharing mummafour and piemunga and to BellaMack as always for a wonderful BookBag!

Quite a moving story and a reasonably told, light read. Some incidents are heart-breaking and reminded me how important it is to spend time with the people we love.

Wonderful, Wonderful. Thankyou beaulivre!
Another Mitch Albom that I can now put on my ex-wishlist!
I read "the five people you meet in heaven" last year and I have been really keen to read more of his ever since and now I can look forward to this one and "tuesdays with Morrie" that I also received just recently.
Bookcrossing is a wonderful thing.
:-)

Ah finally a time with no unread bookrings in my possesion and a few hours to sit down and read this gem of a book. I've discovered I can read AND use my little indoor cycle, a perfect way to while away some hours :-)
I really enjoy the way Mitch Albom tells a story. Eventhough the common theme seems to be death all his books are uplifting.
I also really like the way he draws parallels such as with "Echos".
I think journaling books in bookcrossing is often a bit like an echo, where you can hear how someone else has just enjoyed a book and remember how much you enjoyed it yourself back when you read it.
Thanks again to beaulivre, and to all who passed it on before, for the opportunity to enjoy this one.
I'll find a way to pay it forwards :-)

Chosen to send this as a "Happy Smile Day" RBCK to alice2623663.
Since she will be receiving a huge number of books all at once (at least 30 odd), I decided to send her this one because it is such a quick read and a book that I really enjoyed.

Hope this book makes you smile x
