I loved this book. It's about some friends who have met at Uni and form a tight knit group, who pretty much stay together as friends through to their early thirties (when the main part of the book is set) save for one girl who everyone loses contact with. The first person, Cath, was working in marketing until she was starting to get bored with it, and together with Lucy, the wife of one of her Uni friends, Josh, sets up a bookshop/cafe which had been her lifelong dream. (Sounds like a BCer's dream too!!)

So in the middle of all of this, Cath is the type of girl disinterested in shopping, clothes (spends most of her time wearing old black things - ie leggings), hair (a frizzy birdsnest atop her head!) and men - after being burnt once too often, and will not get involved to prevent herself from the pain of ultimate betrayal. She convinces herself that she is happy with her 3 best friends: Josh, Lucy and Si (her bestest gay friend, always the hopeless romantic), and living by herself. Until..... well you'll just have to read it! But nothing goes smoothly as you get to expect!?

I liked the narrative style of the book, nice and chatty.

I hope this book travels, and keeps in touch with me. ;-)

Had a great few hours down at the shark netted beach today (Saturday 3rd), under the shade of the (coolibah!) tree, digging sandcastles, moats and holes for the kids to sit it!

Laid on the sand and finished the last couple of chapters of Bookends, and while in the dream of the end of the book, got myself another lovely latte from the kiosk, and left the book on the customer side of the coffee machine, just on the counter by the sugar. That was about 2pm. While passing the kiosk to leave at 3.30, the book had gone....I hope I get to find out where!!

[Incidentally, after a rummage around I managed to find some odd sticky notes in my beach bag, but the only writing implement I found was a grey eyeliner with which I wrote "Free!" for the cover... *g*]
