I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings follows Marguerite's (later called Maya) young life in the segregated South. Abandoned by their parents at an early age, she and her older brother Bailey move in with their grandmother and crippled uncle in Stamps, Arkansas. Maya Angelou's autobiography explores how her blossoming character helped her cope with rape, sexism, society's prejudices, and the isolation and loneliness she faced growing up.

"I know why the Caged Bird Sings" is a brutal expose in how the mechanisms of prejudice work in breaking the soul of Men, but at the same time it testifies to the strength and resilience of the human spirit.

What a fabulous book. I could hardly put it down. It's a whole gallery of portraits of very strong people, specially women. I'm looking forward to read the next volume. I'll just keep it a few more days to write down some passages that impressed me and then I'll send it to ichigochi. Thank you very much, Aquina!

Sent today to ichigochi. Sorry I kept it for so long.
Just got it!
Thanks Aquina and Marcenda.
Thanks Aquina and Marcenda.
Thank you Aquina, for giving me the opportunity to "meet" Maya Angelou.
Both her life experience and her writing style are fascinating.
It's wonderful to see that, somehow, she made it through it all, and came out on top...
Just like Marcenda, I'm looking forward to know more of her journey.
(After all, Oprah's recommendations are trustworthy ;))
The book is already on its way to Dangerouswoman.
