Blurb on the back says:

Summer 1924 - On the eve of a glittering society party, by the lake of a grand English country house, a young poet takes his life. The only witnesses, sisters Hannah and Emmeline Hartford, will never speak to each other again.
Winter 1999 - Grace Bradley, ninety-eight, one-time housemaid at Riverton Manor, is visited by a young director making a film about the poet's suicide. Ghosts awaken and old memories - long consigned to the dark reaches of Grace's mind - begin to sneak back through the cracks. A shocking secret threatens to emerge, something history has forgotten but Grace never would.

Quite enjoyed it in a gentle, undemanding sort of way, nothing earth shattering. Felt like I was in an episode of Upstairs Downstairs much of the time - I don't normally read historical type novels.

Well I trundled my way through this, was nearly losing interest in it as I felt it was a bit too long. As the bookmark says 'scunnered'. Was eagerly awaiting the punchline as it were and then found it a bit predictable. Easily enough read and not overly taxing. I know what you mean about 'Upstairs, Downstairs' Lynne. Thanks for letting me read it though.

Will have to decide what to do with it now.
