A story focussing on the ugly side of a country in political and cultural turmoil, and the effects of such instabilities on women and children. This book won the Commonwealth Writers' Best First Book Prize in 2005.
Greetings from Australia. Off it goes to the Netherlands to rapturina, winner of tagesmann's RABCK. Enjoy.

Thank you so much, roelina! This book looks fascinating, can't wait to read it.
Finally got around to reading this book! I read it in two days and enjoyed it very much. It's a rather depressing story, but very interesting to see how the father is looked at by the daughter - and how his fanaticism impacts her life. Also an interesting look into life in Nigeria, especially if you realize that half the time you don't even think about the story being set in Nigeria. It could be anywhere, it's a universal story about growing up and parent-child relationships. Nigeria simply provides the backdrop, though it's not completely in the background all the time.
I'd definitely recommend this book to others! Thanks again, roelina, for sending this book to me!

A much simpler, but more universal, story than Half of a yellow sun, but still both enjoyable and recommendable!
I plan to send this to a friend who has it on her wishlist next!

Loved this book! so moving and sad - wish the ending had been a bit different though. Would have liked to know more about Kambili´s life - what happened next.
I have also read "The thing around your neck" by her which is really good:)
Thanks again Jannicke for sending this book my way:)

This book will now fly over to a friend in Finland:) Hope you will enjoy this book:)
Sorry it took me a while to regiuster, been a bit preoccupied lately. Hopefully will get to it soon, I'm rather looking forward to it!
I very much enjoyed the book, not nearly as harrowing a story as you might expect when the book is about serious domestic violence in a deeply religious family.
This is a surprise book to someone in the neighbourhood.
Thanks for the book, saarahoo! I haven't read it and it looks really tempting. I'm glad my summer vacation starts soon, plenty of time to be lazy and read:)
This was one of my summer reads at my summer cottage. It took me some moments to get into the story but once I did, I truly enjoyed the rest and I couldn't put the book down. Well worth reading!
