This book is a bit over the top but it's quite fun to read. It is the mid-19th century and our young heroine sets off on a journey to defraud another young lady and earn a hefty reward. But, she, in turn, is outsmarted by others and both of them wind up as captives. The female characters are wonderfully drawn. All the men are evil. Or stupid. Or both. I have to admit that I had a hard time putting the book down.
I just received this today from alsomama. I've heard good things and I am looking forward to reading it.
This book was a great deal of fun. A Dickens-like story filled with orphans, madhouses, thieves dens, and twists of idenity- this is a well-written literary story of suspense set in Victorian England.
Waters creates two well-rounded and suprising heroines and a cast of colorful villains, and in doing so she recreates a past era as has never been done before. This is an utterly contemporary victorian novel-highly entertaining and readable.

Just couldn't get into this book. It sounded good, but it just didn't grab me.
Sending it to nkwriter in Canada as a RABCK, she's going through a tough time. Maybe the book will take her mind off of things for awhile.
