Kindly crossed by IrishMolly. Classic Goddard: the middle-aged, inebriated failure is comfortably avoiding life on the Greek Island of Rhodes when the past begins to catch up with him. A walk on a hill leads to her disappearance and although cleared of her murder he is compelled to seach for her and unravell a deep mystery that allows the hero to reconnect with life.

Off now to bluenoser in France...

This has just arrived safely through my mailbox. Both Labarbe and I enjoy Robert Goddard's books and this looks like another good one. Many thanks for the trade johnevelyn.

One of Goddard's early ones. An enjoyable mystery in which the 'detective' is an ordinary everyday bloke, caught up in the search for a missing woman. Harry is accused of her murder but there's no body. He sets out to find her, using a set of photos she left behind.
Both LaBarbe and I enjoy Goddard's books. Thanks for the trade johnevelyn.

WILD RELEASE NOTES:

This is a good holiday adventure read - going onto the OBCZ shelves this morning.

Journal Entry 6 by Mouse-Express on Thursday, August 14, 2008
We picked up the book in Eymet Internet cafe, where we have visited before to find BookCrossing volumes.
This is one of many Robert Goddard books we have both read, one that earns the credits like the Evening Standard's "Takes the reader on a journey from which he knows he will not deviate until the final destination is reached".
Characters are well drawn, particularly the "hero" Harry Barnett who starts out as a sleezy has-been washed up on a beach in Rhodes and works his way through several crises to emerge triumphant - as heroes are won't to do! Clever plotting, double tracking and a final poignant reminder that some lives are not worth saving. We released the book in The Hotel Medium Prisma in Barcelona in August 2008. I shall be interested to see if it reappears!
