From Booklist
Book lust meets chick lit in this tale of a love-challenged bookworm. Dora, named for Eudora Welty, confesses, "I collect new books the way my girlfriends buy designer handbags." Estranged from her husband and living in a luxurious L.A. high-rise, she deals with melancholy by taking long baths while drinking wine and reading paperbacks. Luckily, her habit must be fed, requiring frequent trips to the local bookstore, where she meets tall, handsome Fred--a starving playwright who ekes out a living by providing book-group recommendations to Brentwood housewives. Soon they're involved in a heated romance, but things begin to sour when Dora meets his family. Then Dora's husband pops up, and confusion creeps in. Dora is a charming character, and readers will appreciate some of her more neurotic tendencies, such as her debilitating fear of driving on freeways. No literary masterpiece, this cowritten debut reads instead like a gossipy e-mail from a witty, intelligent friend. A list of referenced books and authors is included at the end. Emily Cook

TBR - den kom i måndags och jag ser fram emot att få läsa den (tänker börja ikväll onsdag)

Journal Entry 4 by babelfisk from Jönköping, Småland Sweden on Friday, October 12, 2007

Despite the fact that Sobergirl didn't rate this book too highly, I took it. :) I have just got rid of a pile of chick-lit, so I guess there's now room for some new stuff...

This will go to Chania next, as soon as I have read it. Will take a few more weeks though...

This book wasn't as good as I expected. All characters were paper-thin. I expected to hear more about Frank and Palmer, also Bea and Harper would have been interesting characters.

The storyline was too shallow and there was too much squeezed into it.

The book will go next to seethroughfaith and then Chania.

thanks for this Savotar - hoping I enjoy it more than you did.

Chania is next on the list - hopefully by the kesäpäivät!

Like the novels Dora turns to in her times of need, this wry, witty and moving debut is for anyone who has ever sought solace in the arms of their favourite author. If books be the food of love, read on ...

erm no, I don't agree with this. I found the book pretentious and dull.I think the authors were just simply trying to be clever -quoting authors here and there and name dropping. My verdict is "Disappointing." (very!) In the end I found myself simply skimming this just to get it read.

That said there were a lot of quotes that would be great for bookcrossing. Wish I'd written them down as I read - I really don't want to wade through this again... but I will share one from the beginning of the book...

Women do different things when they're depressed. Some smoke, others drink, some call their therapists, some eat. ... and I do what I have always done - go off on a book bender that can last for days.p7

I can so relate to that :)

This book now wings its way up north to Chania. Hope she enjoys it more than I did.

Well, this book was ok, easy to read, some interesting parts but nothing much else. Anyway, quite typical chick-lit, and I hope if finds readers that appreciate it more than I did.
