From the inside cover: "This is the story of a 16-year-old girl who retreats from reality into the bondage of an imaginary kingdom. It is a beautifully written novel that tells of her momentous struggle, aided by a brilliant psychiatrist, to regain the real world. It is an eloquent novel about mental illness, one that makes a poignant plea for compassion and understanding."

I read this a while ago. Fascinating book. You'll be overwhelmed by the power the human mind can have.

I found the Yr world a little confusing to follow at first but then got into the flow of it, and the real world was described a little more. It is so hard to comprehend that this was happening in Deborah's mind - this shed a lot of light on what it can be like from the inside, when us outsiders may perceive it in such a different light or at least can't understand what is going on. What was poignant for me was how much of a struggle it was for her to do something we can do so easily, and how she described going back out in the world time and time again, giving up her secret world. My favourite bit is when the colour comes into her life; a story of hope and of life worth fighting very hard for...

Will send it on shortly for the next person to enjoy.

I just finished this book, enjoyed it a lot though it was a bit confusing at times. I have though worked at a mental illness hospital so some things very very familiar but of course (and thankfully) so many things have changed since this book was written.
I will send it tomorrow to Tregossip

Thanks Tregossip for sending on to me. It sat in the flat upstairs for a week- whilst I was avidly wanting to get reading...

Journal Entry 18 by London-Shade on Wednesday, December 10, 2008
I found this hard going, in part I think because the type is so tiny. I wonder what difference a bigger font and more spacious pages would have made? Of course the fact that Deborah was living in such a confused place also contributed, and to have made the story 'easy' to read would have been missing the point of how difficult Deborah's world was.
I found the relationships between the girls on the ward touching, and that getting out into the outside world, only to return to the ward, was a possibility so worrying for them.
Overall a very well written book, interesting and insightful and a very rich account of mental illness which wove in the aspects of childhood- overlooked or considered insignificant- that made for such disturbance in adolescence.

On its way to Daisyflower 123- apologies for the delay

Thanks - this book was waiting on the door steps when I arrived this evening.
Well - lots of rings and rays came for a meeting recently.... sooo I fear I need some time until I will get to read this.
Hope that's not a problem.
If it's getting too long... please let me know!

Well - I just gave up after half of the book.
This is just not my cup of tea... I didn't really want to know how it was going on. I just cannot slip into these shoes.

As soon as the new address is here, I will send it off again.
