from the back...
"....a devastating new novel of innocence, knowledge, and loss.
As children, Kathy, Ruth, and Tommy were students at Hailsham, an exclusive boarding school secluded in the English countryside. It was a place of mercurial cliques and mysterious rules--and teachers were constantly reminding their charges of how special they were.
Now years later, Kathy is a young woman. Ruth and Tommy have reentered her life, and for the first time she is beginning to look back at their shared past and understand just what it is that makes them so special--and how that gift will shape the rest of their time together. Suspenseful, moving, beautifully atmospheric, NEVER LET ME GO is another classic by the author of THE REMAINS OF THE DAY."

I purchased this book to release for the NJABBIC challenge, authors whose names begin in "I". Well...here I am again...missed the release week because I just HAD to read the book first! Glad I did.

A story of three friends who have grown up together at Hailsham, a "school" for "special" "students". Kathy is now a 31 year old "carer" and her friends are now "donors".NEVER LET ME GO is the story of their "lives". I use all the ""s for a reason. You'll understand when you read the book. Reminded me somewhat of The Island and even though it was different, I still thought of The Handmaid's Tale while I was reading.

What a wonderful surprise! It's a dreary day here in PA, and this book from my wishlist just arrived on my doorstep...along with a box of Candy Cane tea, some little wrapped mint candies, and a festive holiday card.

Thank you, cafekat for brightening my day...I'll be curling up with a nice cup of tea this afternoon, and will look forward to reading the book very soon.

A haunting story...unnerving in it's possibilities. When finishing it, I was trying to get a handle on why it seemed 'familiar' to me, and I think too, as cafekat mentioned here, that it does have similar overtones to "A Handmaid's Tale".

I finished this when our flight was canceled, and we hunkered down overnight in a hotel to wait out the ice/snow storm. Thankfully, we caught a flight out the next morning, but I left the book at the hotel for someone else to enjoy.
