Received from akashafamily for Sizzling Summer Sweeps, in which I was the Wiener! LOL
This is actually erotica, but since BookCrossing doesn't have that genre, I'm going with the subgenre of fantasy in categorizing this, as opposed to romance, which is how many erotica books here end up getting classified.
Book Description
Francesca Lia Block's edgy tales of the Los Angeles dreamscape that is "Shangri-L.A." have thrilled millions of readers and literary critics alike. The author of Weetzie Bat, Violet & Clare, Dangerous Angels, Girl Goddess #9, and several other best-selling novels now brings her sensual, dream-like fantasies full circle with this work for adult redaers, NYMPH. As in her other works, Block weaves together themes of subtle magic, youthful hopes, modern urban decay, and deep emotion, told with lyrical storybook language.
The stories in NYMPH bear all the hallmarks of classic Francesca Lia Block—punk spirited characters who celebrate love, life, and art—with one important difference: this time the author carries her vision through the full range of emotion and erotic interaction that her mature audience craves.
An interconnected series of stories, NYMPH is a special journey through the lives and loves of characters like Plum, a Crayon-haired girl who has a gift: if she makes love with a person, that person will then meet their true love; or Tom, a burned out surfer whose luck changes when he is rescued by a mysterious, wheelchair-bound woman; or Sylvie, a chronically depressed poet who finds beauty in unexpected places.
Block's erotic explorations of these smoky, kaledioscopic fables are anything but conventional; these are stories of love, loss, and life, about the healing power of sex and bonding.
This is reserved for sarradee, who won it in the Searing Summer Erotica Swap (07/07).

I wasn't quite sure how to feel about this collection, but I think I at least got my money's worth in the "hotness" factor department. ;) Each story was loosely related to the others, either via a common character or a common location. Some stories had an element of fantasy to them while others did not. And though some seemed a little weird, they weren't much weirder than some of the goth books I've read, and I know this author writes in that genre anyway. That said, I think I enjoyed Plum's character the most.

This book is so small and cute. Thanks CheriePie for sharing it with me!
Hmmm, I don't really know what to make of this book. This is the first thing I've read by this author so I don't have any other works as a reference towards style, content, etc. I'm also not real big on short stories, so even though they are interconnected, they still seemed unfinished to me. Obviously I'm not the target audience.
