The most annoying was the continual breaking off of the narrative to explain a word or phrase, often with a deliberately silly explanation. And then the insistence on advising us not to read on ...
Nonetheless, I enjoyed it enough to read the second book as well, after the inverted cliffhanger at the end (all is well, but for how long?)
I bought these two books because there was a special offer at the bookshop. I'm not sure I like them enough to spend a lot on the rest, but I did see a boxed set at the charity shop on Saturday, so maybe...
Next book: The Reptile Room
Edit to add: I didn't get the boxed set, and decided to release the books I have. This one I left on platform 1 at Edgware Station on Friday 14 December.
