The story is told through the eyes of Nadia, the daughter of a 84-year-old Ukrainian immigrant widower, Nikolai, who falls in love with a much younger 30-something, big-breasted Ukrainian immigrant, Valentina. Nadia and her sister Vera try to split the pair when it becomes apparent Valentina is only marrying her lovesick father to become a British citizen. In uniting in that cause, the sisters look back on their own family history. The story also intertwines with Nikolai's writing of a book, the short history of tractors, alluded to in the title.

This book contains more than I ever wanted to know about the history of tractors, and I didn’t really understand the purpose of including that information except in a metaphoric sense. However, the remaining story is delightful, tragic, and humorous, all at the same time, with characters I felt I could reach out and touch.

This was a fun read! I like the writing style, loved the off-beat sense of humor and would read other books by this author.
Will pass to my daughter (she won't journal), then my sister(she might journal).
Thank you to Pinklady60 for this RABCK!
