Picked up at Hampstead meetup in a rush when I had to leave as realised at the last minute I hadn''t actually taken any books! Not sure this is for me and may take to another BookCrossing meet.

How accurate it is to describe a book (as this is on the cover) as "in the tradition of Angela's Ashes" when it was written about 50 years earlier is an interesting question. I haven't read AA but I enjoyed this very much. It's not of a genre I've read a lot of but the impression I got was that it is rather less self-pitying and sentimental than most of its modern successors. The only real flaw is that sometimes the dialogue seems too concisely articulated for the (mostly) uneducated characters; I don't mean the emotions themselves are not convincing.

I've just finished reading this book, it's beautiful. I got it from world of books and I'm going to pass it on to my friend. I will be buying another copy though to annotate because there were some amazing quotes! Future readers, if the pages seem a bit crinkly, I apologize, I may or may not have left it in what I thought was a waterproof bag (turns out it wasn't) during heavy rain. I haven't heard of bookcrossing before, but I'll definitely be doing it again, it's a great idea!
I haven't read this yet but I've just got it from my friend, I will update with my opinion later but I think this is a really sweet idea and would love to continue the chain when I'm done.

good book, i liked how it managed to get someone's whole life into just 500 pages and touched on serious issues.
