Journal Entry 1 by Skyring from Reid, Australian Capital Territory Australia on Friday, March 7, 2003
This is a book full of people with secrets, people who had a hand in it, people who could have done it, people who were thought to have done it.
A book that you need to read twice over to tie it all together, to pick up the clues once you know the ending. It's all there, but like the paths through the vanished forest, they are hard to find.
A complex book, full of strands that diverge, cometogether, lie dormant for years, and finally tie themselves up in a sad little package. The list of characters helps. A little. A map would help even more.
A dark and difficult book. Full of atmosphere. Full of seasonal details. Full of fascinating, well-worked out characters. Full of secrets.

I bought this book at the YWCA Garage Sale at Yarralumla on Saturday 8 February 2003 with a bunch of others at $10 the box. Bought three boxes and worked through them, some being put up for sale, some set aside to be released. This one was right on the cusp, but for some reason I put it up on ABEbooks at $US2.00.
When I got involved in Special-K's Bookring, I cast about for a crime book. I'm not a big crime reader, but I remembered that this one had won an award, so I dug it out for my contribution to the bookring.
I know that this book's going on a splendid adventure and I look forward to reading of its travels.
It's also the 200th book I've registered on BookCrossing - it's been a busy and enjoyable two months since I joined!

Received this in the mail from Di during the week. I started it this morning and am enjoying it so far.
I just finished this so I'll send it to k-j-h after Easter. This is the first Swedish book I've read and found it enjoyable to the end. Thanks for including it in our bookring Pete.

Journal Entry 11 by krissy at Post Office @ Garden City in Booragoon, Western Australia Australia on Saturday, September 20, 2003
Release planned for Sunday, September 21, 2003 at Post Office @ Garden City in Booragoon, Western Australia Australia.
I found this book hard to read mainly because of all the swedish names and towns. I think if you keep some notes of the characters it would be a bit easier.

another one for the TBR pile beside my bed :)
I have been trying and trying to read this book but I just can't get into it, so I am sending it onto Dewey before I go away for Xmas - have a nice Xmas break everyone! :)
Released on Sunday, December 14, 2003 at postal release in Kingston, Queensland, Australia Controlled Releases.
Received today from 'luckaye'. Last instalment in Special-K's Crime Bookring.
I have tried to get into this book, but alas, have failed at every attempt. Sorry to have taken so long to make a journal entry. It has been such a fixture on my bedside table for the last 6 months, it will be strange to see it gone. Release notes follow.

Picked this up in my "I'm back in Ballarat" go hunting expedition.
I have had my eye on this release for awhile, and have finally managed to go up when the library is open!
I had actually wanted to join the list for this particular book when it was traveling around, but then discovered that it was part of a big organised bookring.
Maybe this will start a bit of releasing and catching rivalry between Dewey and I for the next couple of months...

Journal Entry 19 by Hawkette from Sydney CBD, New South Wales Australia on Saturday, February 12, 2005
I was quite enchanted by this book, even though at times confused. The narration jumps about, and often you don`t know who is telling the story until several paragraphs in. But I think that`s the point - it`s all very confusing and mysterious, and secrets are everywhere.
I haven`t read anything from Sweden before, so I was quite impressed. Know so little about racial tention and clans of the culture. Was an interesting insight.
I am afraid that, although having some thoughts about how everything happen, I was nowhere near the answer! So many possibilities that the author leads you to, so many different angles.
I quite enjoyed this book, and found that I could bury myself into it quite easily. Have been travelling with it, and it was a good distraction from the madness of airports and plane trips.
I am meeting a couple of BookCrossers today for a mini Meet Up here in Toyko, and intend to pass it on to one of them.

After a spot of hand-to-hand combat I managed to wrest the book away from fellow BXer,delala;after reading I will pass it on to her.It was fun meeting Hawkette, my first encounter with a BXer that I hadn't infected myself.
I think it's a great idea to meet up with local BXing nuts when travelling and would like to try it myself someday. Thanks for the book,Hawkette,it looks interesting.Happy Trails !P.S. will upload picture later)

Journal Entry 21 by LilB from Auckland, Auckland Province New Zealand on Wednesday, February 23, 2005
I was walking down a back alley in Kyoto with my head stuck in this book. Someone came up from behind, pushed me down and made off with it. I couldn't make out who it was exactly, although the ungraceful manner in which they ran off reminded me of delala....
My darn big feet give me away everytime.....BUT now I have it AND I will know the ending before you and maybe it will accidently slip out over drinks sometime .....moohahahaha!!
I agree with the other entries that mentioned that this book was a bit difficult to get through. It was, however, an interesting read if only for the fact that it was set in Sweden and you get a feel for some of the issues that are present there. (thanks so much for passing it along Hawkette!)
Having finished this I suppose it is time to pass it on to that other bookcrosser (who tried to keep it from me eventhough she has twice as many books as me!)

Well,it's not everyday you find blackwater in your toilet.... or perhaps you do. I found this in my outside loo left by the delinquent delala.I am meeting her for lunch where I shall give her some books and hopefully keep the streets of Kyoto safe from marauding booksnatchers !
Oh ironies of ironies, after all that we have been through I felt compelled to leave this book without finishing it. I am cruel like that, but thought the book would be happier in New Zealand and perhaps be adopted by a nice family. Here's hoping we will soon learn of the book's new life.
I work at Auckland Airport - from time to time passengers leave books in lounges as they depart on flights. As an avid reader it is good to get a variety of books in this manner. This is the first Bookcrossing book I have come across - what a great idea. I usually 'recycle' books I have read with workmates - but this is much more adventurous!
I wasn't sure what to expect with this book/author as the first Scandinavian author I have found.
It is a pleasant easy read - with just the right amount of raised questions to increase the suspense level a notch with each chapter. Characters are well developed and described well.
I will start to add good books I no longer wish to keep to keep Bookcrossing alive and kicking!
