"On the tiny Breton island of Le Devin, life has remained almost unchanged for a hundred years. For generations two rival communities, the wealthy La Houssinière and the impoverished village of Les Salants, have fought for control over the island's only beach, the source of its prosperity.

When spirited local girl Mado returns, she finds her home threatened, both by the tides and by local entrepreneur Claude Brismand. Worse still, Mado's father is suffering trom the same disease that affects the village itself: an incurable loss of hope.

Dogged by prejudice, she is forced to enlist the help of Flynn, an attractive drifter who shows her the means to redress the balance of power...

But Mado's attempts have unforeseen consequences. As Les Salants returns to life, so do past tragedies, including the terrible secret that still haunts Mado's father. And Flynn has other hidden loyalties. Is he really who he says he is? Or is he leading them all into a trep?"

I have this book in Finnish, but writing this text I noticed I don't remember a thing about it...

I have "read" the first hour. I still do not remember how the story ends, but the village and some of the characters were familiar to me. I enjoy Paulas normal voice (as Mado), but everyone else has such sharp voices that they hurt my ears! Sorry, I will have to re-read the book instead of listening to it.

Hopefully someone else will like this.

WILD RELEASE NOTES:

RELEASE NOTES:

I had an appointment with my dentist today and couldn't eat, drink or do anything much. So I started listening to this lying on my sofa.

To be honest, from time to time my eyes got shut and the narration got funnily mixed up with my restless dreams... But I could pick up the storyline nevertheless. This is a typical Joanne Harris's novel, her novels follow certain patterns.

This is actually the first audio book I have ever tried. For me personally reading is more convenient than listening, but this wasn't actually a bad experience. I might give an audio book another try in the future!

I will participate in the "Theatre week" challenge with this book.

The link between theatre and the book is of course the fact that the reader is an actress. :)

I found it on Student-Theater of University of Turku by the coffeemachine.
I'm planning to listen it soon.
I was glad to see something like that!
I like coasts, shores and things I found there, rocks and wood and such, strange stuff, which I collect too much...
Cover of CD was in a way perfect!
I wish it's also good inside!
