This book tells the story of a powerful, lifelong friendship of four women. A great addition to the book, "Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood". The book tells the roots of the Ya-Ya's friendship in the 1930's and spans sixty years. It is written in different voices and points of view.

I did not enjoy this book as much as the other two in the series. It was enjoyable to read a continuation of the Ya-Ya saga with differing points of view of events already described in the other two books, but this book seemed somewhat sugar-coated. Vivi almost seemed normal in this book and the family wasn't as disfunctional as the previous books described them. I also felt that this book was very much plot driven with Edythe's storyline - almost like there needed to be a crisis in order for there to be a happy ending.

This will be going out as a spiral along with the other books in the series.
Spiral Guidelines:

1. Keep the Ya-Ya books as close to the top of your TBR as possible.
2. Read and send along within 4 weeks.
3. Because of the nature of the spiral, do not send a book to the next person until they have sent along the book they are currently holding. Please PM the next person to make sure they are ready for the book. This may mean that one person my hold up the spiral, but it will help to keep books from getting lost. Please do not send books on to someone else who is not sending them along - PM me if you think this is happening.

Order of the spiral:

top-tappser (WA)
AnnieMacFan (WA)
myprincess (CA)
Me - aberpeter (WA)
klaradyn (South Africa)

On its way to top-tappser

Arrived in the mail today. Wow, a signed first addition. I'm not sure I would have parted with it. I will get right to it as I have nothing in front of it, but Christmas working at the Post Office may add a little to my reading time.

I liked this book better then the other two. The first half was just a continuation of the other two. Then entered Myrtis and Edythe, and a whole new story seemed to take off. I will be holding this waiting for book 2 to move along before passing this to AnnieMacFan.

Left with AnnieMacFan today while I was over there for bunco and lunch.

Recieved from Top-Tappser today. I still have Divine Secrets... until I get the word to pass it on. Hopefully by the time I finish reading this book the spiral will be back on track.

Well I didn't like this book as well as the first two. It wasn't a Story and it wasn't a study in what made the people who they were. It just seemed to be a collection of incidents; sometimes from more than one view point, which didn't really add anything to the previous stories. For the most part the only thing I enjoyed was filling in a couple details missing from the first two books -- how the Ya-Yas first met and a little of how some of the secondary Petite Ya-Yas were as adults. It just wasn't enough to make an interesting or stand-alone Novel. I'll be returning both Ya-Ya Sisterhood and Ya_Yas in Bloom to Aberpeter at her request. Thanks for the opportunity to read the entire series.

Well, I agree with previous readers - this was not the best of the three Ya-Ya books (although it was still quite enjoyable). I liked the background of how the Ya-Yas met as children, but also agree that Vivi seemed different in this book, not as dysfunctional.
