This was a great book and such a compelling narrative that events that would, in some writing, seem trite and way too convenient for story exposition, able to be integrated in to the story. The characters were interesting and of sufficient comlexity. The minor characters were no mere cutouts or cliches, and the background to the story was interesting. Agghanistan is not a place I have read much about.
