Kyle's Bed & Breakfast
5 journalers for this copy...
The world's favorite comic strip about a gay bed & breakfast!
(Actually, it's the world's only comic strip about a gay bed & breakfast...)
It's a collection of the first few years of Kyle's B&B comics which can be found online: http://www.kylecomics.com
It stars Kyle who, obviously, has a Bed & Breakfast. Kyle is gay, as are most characters in the stories, though Richard does have a friend who's a lesbian and there are certainly some straight characters as well. The various characters come in and out (in more ways than one) and many even live in the B&B permanently. I adore the characters, who all feel very real and who have a LOT of heart. There's a wide range of topics. There's drama, there's sadness, and there's tons of humor. Kyle has to be my favorite, but the others are great to get to know and follow. My second favorite is Nick because he speaks his mind, stays true to himself, and has a hell of a lot of depth. I look forward to the strip when it comes out every few weeks.
The dialogue is very pointed and has to accomplish a lot in a small amount of space, but much feels very real. The drawings are wonderful, though. There's everything from wholesome storylines to sex (and nummy but "tasteful" nudity).
But in addition to the years of comics, there are also some just-for-the-book strips, blueprints of the house, a history about the strip and lots of info about Greg Fox and his various other works.

will be reading after i finish love mode 2.
finished this today. 5 years' worth of comics packed into one book. i'm somewhat surprised that i enjoyed this as much as i did, although it did start to get a bit same-y as it went on, as soap operas tend to do. also, once in a while the characters and the topics hint at being more three-dimensional and interesting, but then things slip back into the usual who's sleeping w/ whom shtick. overall i enjoyed it though, and i've signed up for the weekly updates, although i'm disappointed to find that there's a big gap b/t this book and what's going on now and no way to fill in the gap until the next book comes out. oh well. let's hope that that's sooner than later!
Back in my hands.
EDIT:
Sent out to California on another temporary trade through yaoi-library. The book was involved in a postal mishap along the way and returned in not-perfect condition. Trader did not journal the book/leave thoughts.

I really wanted to like this but I can't work up much interest. The characters seem more like caricatures, both in the way they're drawn and in their personalities. There are some entertaining moments but overall it just didn't work for me. I have Jare's address so hopefully this will be off in the next day or two, if I don't get snowed in!

Arrived in the mail today, I can't wait to dive in! My partner *may* want to read it after I'm done. Thanks for sending it along ealasaidmae, and thank you to KateKintail for sharing this!
Ok, I have to admit to never reading the Kyle comics before. I had heard of them, but with so so so much out there on the web, sometimes you just don't bother. I'm glad I signed up for this bookring, because I absolutely LOVED the story! And I see from his website that it is still going strong (although there is a gap of 100+ episodes between the book and current, and I can't find them online, come on book #2 lol). What a fun cast of characters! I laughed, and yes, I cried at times too. I think my family is glad I'm done with this as I will no longer be tripping over things while walking and reading at the same time!
Thank you so very much for sharing this, KateKintail! I will have this in the mail to you ASAP!

Home sweet home! The book made it home a few days ago, after what I can only imagine was a perilous journey. From the look of the package (uploaded to this journal entry) it was involved in some wild postal mishap... for a second time!
But it's back home now, and thanks to everyone who helped it on its journey.
I've saved a few years of strips from online that I'd be happy to send your way if you want to get caught up on the Bed & Breakfast bunch. There's a slight gap between the book and when I started reading the comic, but only a few major things happen in that time. So let me know via PM if you want the strips. And I'll definitely do another one of these bookrings when volume 2 comes out finally!
