Synopsis
The number one bestseller in Mexico and America for almost two years, and subsequently a bestseller around the world, "Like Water For Chocolate" is a romantic, poignant tale, touched with moments of magic, graphic earthiness, bittersweet wit - and recipes. A sumptuous feast of a novel, it relates the bizarre history of the all-female De La Garza family. Tita, the youngest daughter of the house, has been forbidden to marry, condemned by Mexican tradition to look after her mother until she dies. But Tita falls in love with Pedro, and he is seduced by the magical food she cooks. In desperation, Pedro marries her sister Rosaura so that he can stay close to her. For the next twenty-two years, Tita and Pedro are forced to circle each other in unconsummated passion. Only a freakish chain of tragedies, bad luck and fate finally reunite them against all the odds.

The book has arrived safely in Brussels.
I started reading it right away and I haven't been able to put it down, despite my really hectic work life.
Thanks angellica!

I loved this book! It follows the tradition of magic realism but it's quite original in many ways. Well worth a read!
Any suggestions about what I should read next along the same lines?
On its way to Cross-Patch. Happy reading!

A real fun read. I, too, enjoy this style of book. Examples I have seen before (I think) are:-
Chocolat - Joanne Harris
The South American novels by Louis de Bernierre
Sexing the Cherry - Jeanette Winterson
some of Isabel Allende
and Cucina by someone I forget.
Going off to Heathwitch when I can get to the post.

Received today -- but as I'm moving house it'll be going straight into a box. I'll try and remember it as soon as I can after the move, and get on with it then. :p
Apologies about the delay with this book ... :(
Try as I might, I could not get into this book fully. I can't say what it was about it, but I just couldn't get into it. :( As shnedwards has asked to be skipped, I'm mailing on to AgdaAgulina as soon as I have the address.

Finally. I have really wanted to read this book so long time, but somehow we have so far missed each other - so imagine the joy of having it finally on my hands. Thank you very much for this ring! There is one very small book before, and then I will be all water for chocolate.
Well this was a tasty book! I especially liked the absurdity of it... some feelings are very familiar to me. Also it was wonderful how the recipes were combined to the story itself! Genious. I couldn't help though picturing some by the movie I saw a year ago.
However, this book returned me to my kitchen - and that was a lot to do!! And knitting for any lonely moments...
Very charming experience. Thank you angellica very much for sharing this!

I got the book at the meet-up in Sokos today. I'll pass the book on after reading it.
Thank you for the book, kind Bookcrossers!

I do not recommend reading this book while hungry. The hunger will get worse. I ate well and started to read the book and everything was satisfactory. The book is quite a mix of traditions, modern life, legend and recipes.
This is a Wishlist-RABCK to a far away country.
Happy reading!
