This is a very good book. Reads like a charm. Frank McCourt has a way with words - albeit a very Irish way, which makes it all the more an enjoyable read. It is very depressing though. I cannot believe the misery of being poor and Irish during the first quarter of the 20th century. They made a movie out of it, but don't kid yourself. Read the book first. I have the second part - 'Tis (NOT 'Tits'. *ahem*). Coming soon..........

Sounds intriguing.. I hope I won't become depressed after reading the book.. nah! I came through reading another memoir on a woman's wrongly imprisonment during the Chinese revolution.. i had thought it would have been depressing (well, it was, a little) but ultimately, it turned out to be very inspiring. The human spirit, despite such trials, will never flounder.. Hope this book would be just inspiring!

Thanks to cheeky ape for the book!

Hmmm... i shudder to say it but it's already May and I still have the book.. since February!!! I am surprised that Ape hasn't harrassed me AT ALL about the book. That's because she's a good ape. Well, ape, I can tell you honestly that it is the very next book to be read.. and since i already finished a book yesterday (or was that the day before yesterday??), the path to monkey's brain is free for this book. So sorry for taking so long. Actually, I had forgotten that I had it until I found it in a drawer.. *sheepish grin*

Wow!! That was an amazing book. I was astounded at how amused and horrified I was at the same time. I cannot wait 'til I read the sequel!! The book is now available to anyone who wants it.
