The Reader

Left *unregistered* at the BC Meetup in York, back in April. So I am doing the honours now...
"Berhard Schlink's extraordinary novel 'The Reader' is a compelling meditation on the connections between Germany's past and its present, dramatised with extreme emotional intelligence as the story of a relationship between the narrator and an older woman. It has won deserved praise across Europe for the tact and power with which it handles its material, both erotic and philosophical" - Independent on Saturday magazine
I've no idea what this book is like - though it sounds a little too heavy for me in my current frame of mind.
I'm planning to release this at the next BC Meetup in Leeds - and will be interested to find out what people make of it...

Picked up at York BXers Meetup.
I didn't really know what this was about before I started reading it - hadn't ever read the blurb - which was probably good. I may not have picked it up if I had. It was a good read though. Thought provoking and poignant in parts, whilst in other parts quite difficult to read.

RELEASE NOTES:
Picked up at York BXers Meetup (my first one!). Found the narrative style initially quite dry and neutral but it picks up towards the end, becoming quite hard-hitting and genuinely moving. Have sent it to my mother with instructions to read and release, which hopefully she'll do!
