Flyboys: A True Story of Courage
1 journaler for this copy...
The author presents a lot of history so that the reader has a context in which to place the admittedly horrific events. What it boils down to is: during wars terrible things happen to and are done by lots of people on both sides, many of whom don't want to be there at all.
I guess the important thing is to tell the stories so that we can try to avoid repeating the same things over and over. And if you can tell the tale in an unsensational manner the way this book does, and still reach people, even better. (Or as unsensational a manner as possible, when it comes to decapitation.)
I always want photos in a book like this to help me feel I know the people a little better. In this case, even the little drawings at the beginning of each chapter are relevant. I'm glad I read this book, and I'll be passing it on so that others can read it as well.

Passed on to dustyflint at our TOC meeting today. Here's another copy on my BookCrossing shelf.

This came back to me today. Mom will probably read it before it gets released.
Well, this sat on the shelf for a while, but just Mom finished it..in time for the August 2009 One Word Release Challenge.
So I guess I should find a good place to let this go.
