A great story! I loved this book, my first by Edith Wharton. It's the story of Newland Archer and his choice between two women, one who becomes his wife and the other his possible mistress. The book really gives a close look at what it would be like to live among New York elite before the turn of the 20th century.

The book arrived safely this morning and looks great. Thank you, blackadder.

I wanted to read this book for a long time, having read and loved some of Wharton's other books. Unfortunately, this one just didn't do it for me. Wonderful style and writing, as usual, but the story was seriously lacking. Uneventful and boring. This may be her most famous book, but, for me, it was very disappointing.
