I'm quite ambivalent to this book. It's beautiful and heart-breaking - too much so for me, since I wasn't able to finish it once it became quite clear that the tragedy was inescapable. I was expecting tragedy all along, but there's just something about that moment of reading a novel where it becomes clear that the characters are unable to avoid their fate: I often, when reading, hope that the characters can change the fate that is literally written for them; the moment it becomes clear that they won't escape it (this time either) is often almost painful, if I care for the characters, as I did here for Tess.
So I'm releasing the book in the hope that it might touch other minds in better ways than it did mine.

Do I need more books?! Not really! Could I resist picking up this one when I dropped by Kaffe og Krem today? No! :)
It's been on my list of classics I want to try reading, and although I'm not having too much progress with that list yet, I hope to be able to get started on this in a not too distant future anyway.
