RESERVED FOR NSSSSS PARTNER

Seven-year-old Venus Fox never spoke, never listened, never even acknowledged another human being in the room with her. Yet an accidental playground 'bump' would release a rage frightening to behold. The school year that followed would prove to be one of the most trying, perplexing and ultimately rewarding of Torey's career, as she struggled to reach a silent child in obvious pain and remained committed to helping a 'hopeless' girl, and patiently and lovingly leading her towards the light of a new day.

This is possibly the most moving book I have read this year. I pretty much guessed Venus's story from the outset, and I desperately hoped that Torey Hayden would get through the outer shell and save her. The other children in the class were brilliant, the moment Billy opened his mouth, I fell in love with him:-)
At the climax of the story, I sat and sobbed, but I couldn't stop reading. Although the storyline is much the same as all the other abused kid stories out there, this one felt different. It didn't have the same overwhelming horror and grief that so often runs through these books.
Torey Hayden deserves a sainthood for her passionate caring ...I just wish that all special needs kids could have such a person in their life.

I feel that this book should be shared, so I'm going to RABCK to someone who has this on their wishlist. I hope she enjoys it as much as I did

WOW! Thank you so much Vespa :) This was a lovely surprise, specially as I didn't manage to participate in the NSSSSS this year!

I love Torey Hayden books, they're so inspiring!
