Harry Silver returns to face life in the "blended family." A wonderful new novel about modern times, which can be read as a sequel to the million selling Man and Boy, or completely on its own. Man and Wife is a novel about love and marriage - about why we fall in love and why we marry; about why we stay and why we go. Harry Silver is a man coming to terms with a divorce and a new marriage. He has to juggle with time and relationships, with his wife and his ex-wife, his son and his stepdaughter, his own work and his wife's fast-growing career. Meanwhile his mother, who stood so steadfastly by his father until he died, is not getting any younger or stronger herself. In fact, everything in Harry's life seems complicated. And when he meets a woman in a million, it gets even more so...Man and Wife stands on its own as a brilliant novel about families in the new century, written with all the humour, passion and superb storytelling that have made Tony Parsons a favourite author in over thirty countries.

Tony Parsons has certainly descibed a journey taken by many families, struggling with divorce, second marriages and step families. The message I take away is that we must realise that there is no such thing as a perfect marriage and that marriages need to be worked at if we value them.

Well firstly it was lovely to meet you frangipani08 while I was in Briabane.

I loved this book but gee did I want to slap him around. What did he think he was doing?? OMG some men give the rest a bad name. I kept on liking him though even though he was letting his *ick rule his life I thought. A terrific follow on book but I hope it is left there but no doubt if there is another book in this series I will read it for sure. ha ha

PMing Sujie now for her address.

Thank you for sharing this with me.

Arrived today, thanks. Enjoyed "Man and boy" some years ago. Right sort of book to read at this moment, my heavier book stalling for me, and having spent one of the less happy days of my life yesterday when my car died beneath me some 200km from home...

Hmm...after three pages I felt that this was very familiar. Turns out it''s Man and Boy I haven''t read. I even bought a copy of this one and sent it on to my daughter two years ago. What a dill. PMing bargainqueen.

Received with thanks. Strange, I didn't even love Man and Boy terribly but was so curious about this one anyway. It is joining my pile, might take a while to read but looks like livrecache is in no hurry either. Will report back if time becomes too long! Thanks for sending.

Well, what a pleasant surprise! I really didn't enjoy Man and Boy but I totally loved this book! Where I didn't connect with the people in Man and Boy, I really felt comfortable with the people in Man and Wife. I can see the point of view of everyone in this book, and whilst Harry is still a jerk who can't find what he's looking for, he is also very vulnerable and kind and lost. Loved it, thanks! Pming the next person now.
Edit: I discussed this with arrietty at the last meetup, and bizarrely she absolutely loved Man and Boy and hated this one! So I am wondering whether there's a common thread here ;)

This arrived safely yesterday, thanks. Perfectly timed, as I'd just got to the last of my current bookrings. Oh, I see that it's a ray - once I've read it, I'll ray it on. Thanks for sharing, frangipani08.

Accidentally sent today as I confused it with another book. How easy I am to muddle. Can't make a controlled release work now, but.

Apparently caught by Trystja, but don't know when. But she has let freelunch know that it has arrived. So it has a home . . . for the time being.
