Why would a man who loved his wife – so much that in the quarter century since her death, he hasn't found someone to take her place – why wouldn't he have a record of the life he'd had with her, of the baby they'd made?

Delia Hopkins has led a charmed life. Raised in rural New Hampshire by her widowed father Andrew, she now has a young daughter, a handsome fiancé, and her own Search and Rescue bloodhound, which she uses to find missing persons.

But as Delia plans her wedding, she is plagued by flashbacks of a life she can't recall. And then a policeman knocks at her door, and her world fractures into something unrecognisable.

In shock and confusion, Delia must search for the truth among her newly discovered memories – even when they threaten to devastate her life, and the lives of those she loves most.

This is the third Picoult book that I've read, and it's probably a good thing it wasn't the first, otherwise I wouldn't have read any more! There are too many coincidences and "echoes" for this book to be at all believable or plausible. Slightly over blown and over emotional as well, this was "popular fiction" of the worst kind !

I found this book at Sheffield University and took it on holiday with me this August. It was a good summer read as it didnt need much concentration or thought, but i'd be disappointed if I had bought it specially for the occasion. Other books I have read by Picoult have been better....
