Tourist Season
2 journalers for this copy...
Ex-library book -a bargain at 10p!
I've only read one of Hiaasen's books (Skinny Dip courtesy of a bookring run by Triggerfish) but I throughly enjoyed it & expect to do the same with this....
In brief...A bizarre series of killings in Florida lead a one-time journalist onto the trail of a former colleague. The columnist is conducting a vendetta against tourists spoiling the beauty of the area. His headquarters are somewhere in the Everglades, his gang are a mixed-up bunch.

Journal Entry 2 by Plum-crazy from Brighouse, West Yorkshire United Kingdom on Tuesday, September 30, 2008
to be read & released in Scotland...watch this space for the review.
Edit: Book Review May 2009
The usual mix of eccentric characters, madcap villains & hapless crooks that we've come to know & love Hiaasen for.
This time "Las Noches de Diciembre" are trying to drive the tourists out of Florida & reclaim the land for the wildlife. Skip Wiley is El Fuego the leader of a small group, a very small group actually, the members being an ex-footballer, a would-be terrorist & a Native American...a group all set for revolution.
Brian Keyes, ex-journalist turned P.I., is hired by Wiley's boss to track him down...without letting on to the cops that Wiley is in fact El Fuego. Murders, mishaps & bombings abound before Las Noches de Diciembre" attempt a daring kidnapping.
While I didn't laugh out loud at this book, I certainly did a lot of sniggering - my favourite Hiaasen book....so far....
Read & released as part of the 2009 ULTIMATE CHALLENGE (May's theme THE SEA)
Also read as part of the 2009 REDUCE MOUNT TBR CHALLENGE (#39)

We found the book in Port Patrick, Dumfries and Galloway whilst on Holiday. It was sitting out in the rain all by itself so we took it in and gave it a warm home for a little while. It then journeyed back to Cumbria, England where it stayed for a little bit, still unread, then to Manchester where it became lost, only to find its way back to Cumbria again. Its final journey will be to a little country village called Corbidge, where the next leg of Carl Hiassen and the TOurist season will begin.
Bon Voyage little book!
