Amazon.co.uk Synopsis:

'You know those people who always radiate cheerful optimism? Nauseating aren't they? I want to become one of those. I want to find out how to live life completely, abundantly, joyfully, stupidly. This is my quest. Enlightenment.' So proclaims Isabel Losada, Starbucks addict, exercise allergic and self-confessed sceptic as she sets out on the road to enlightenment. Beginning with an Insight seminar where hundred people with name badges discuss their 'inner beauty', Isabel journeyed through a gruelling course of 'Rolfing' nude Goddess workshops, a weekend of tantric sex ('Yes! Yes! Yes!') and a reincarnation session, not to mention a spot of colonic irrigation. Irreverent yet open-minded, funny and always honest, "The Battersea Park Road to Enlightenment" is also moving and ultimately illuminating. For anyone who has ever been tempted to dip a toe in the waters of self-discovery, Isabel Losada plunges you straight in.

I thought this was an excellent, informative and entertaining read. Isabel Losada makes an amusing companion through the world of Complementary therapies and if I was better off and more bold, I might even try some myself.

It's also made me want to read more of her books!

Saving this for JoshFarmer to be passed on at the next Sudbury Meet, but I think Pakasanelly would enjoy this one too.

Not quite sure why this has landed on my TBR pile, hmmmm, it's that book pusher TurquoiseFloyd again!

Cripes, I'd better get reading...

Journal Entry 5 by wingBookAmblerwing from Isle of Lewis, Scotland United Kingdom on Friday, September 21, 2007
OK, so TurquoiseFloyd knows me too well... I guess I've been to quite a few alternative therapies, but not a patch on Isabel Losada!

I enjoyed Losada's writing style and descriptions of the various things she tried out. Especially 'Slipperman' and the Rocks :o) By the end I was rather confused about whether she had found enlightenment or not, but since I was more interested in the therapies themselves it didn't seem to matter! One good point she made was regarding the problem of maintaining whatever 'peace' has been gained when back in real life... it has to come from within!

On a serious note, if you are a therapy-junky she could save you a lot of money with this info!

I did find that I'm eating more slowly since the chapter on colonic irrigation (!) but the only therapy (if you can call it that) that I would be interested in attending is the NLP course.

Like TF I shall look out for more Losada to read.

Then I had to turn over. As I lay down there was a round, flat stone that fitted perfectly into the pelvic girdle. It was like lying on a hot water bottle only twice as good and even quite sexy. Heat up against the pubic bone. My potential new relationship was feeling very promising. And the uncanny feeling of being understood was becoming increasingly worrying. Maybe this is what I’ve been doing wrong all these years? Trying to have relationships with people.

Amusing story of a woman's experiences of various alternative therapies, some of which sounded far more appealing than others.

Picked up at the Ipswich meet after a recommendation or 2.

I'm not quite sure why I picked this up, book-oholism I suspect. Its not the sort of book I usually read as I'm not particularly interested in alternative therapies, enlightment etc. Relaxation - pah - that's for wimps!!

I found it a bit of a struggle to get into but began to enjoy the different experiences that Isabel embraced and tried out. Some were decidedly wierd but I quite fancy the stones and the retreat. Hmmm! Must book some holistic therapies and get rid of this tightness in my shoulders and panic in my brain. I certainly like the attitude of trying everything - just say 'yes'!!

I will be passing this on to another bookswapper soon.
