Slow starting, but an unexpected shock and twist near the end.

I found this book at a vacation rental house and didn't get the chance to finish it while I was there. I had just finished reading one of Anita Shreve's other books (Body Surfing)and had to take this one to read. Anita Shreve is a fantastic writer who puts just enough detail to make you use your imagination, but not enough that it gets to be boring or tedious. It was so well written that I couldn't put it down. I stayed up 3 in the morning just to finish it. Now my only problem is to where to leave it next...
