I read this as it appears on the 1001 books to read before you die list . It is a thoroughly enjoyable book and I would recommend it to anyone who likes light, yet thought provoking stories.
Thanks to the chap at Generalstore for sharing.

Found at the Costa OBCZ whilst on holiday in England.
I enjoyed this (a little bit!), but found that details of the story were glossed over a little too much to be fully appreciated.

RELEASE NOTES:
A friend from Baltimore, Maryland, will be staying with us for a couple of days next week, and I plan to read the book over the weekend so I can give it to her when she leaves. She's training to be a chef, so I think she'll be able to make better use of the recipes than I would (I have health problems and can almost never use recipes I find in books). I'll edit this later to write my review.
EDIT, a few days later:
I enjoyed the book for the most part, though the magical realism elements didn't always work for me (despite my being a fantasy fan). Also, it seemed like Rosaura got a very raw deal, and that as a reader you're supposed to be happy about this, which didn't sit well with me.
The book is very compelling, though. The funny thing is that when I gave it to my friend, it turned out to be a favourite of hers already, so she's going to pass it on to someone else she knows.
