And then I must see the film - James McAvoy, yum yum.

Read this during my journey from Sheffield to Bolton and then finished it when I got home.

A quick and very enjoyable read.

Usually books like this, written from the point of view of a rather wimpy young male protagonist, get right on my nerves but I enjoyed this very much.

This was probably because it was set at a university in the mid-1980s, and I was at a northern Polytechnic in the early 80s.

I thus appreciated all the period details; eg white people skanking drunkenly and badly to Exodus by Bob Marley (always the last record of the night at the Leadmill in Sheffield and we never took the hint) and the references to 1980s music and the wonders of the compilation tape - yes, they could take over 3 hours to put together.

Also, rather sadly, I was rather like the male hero; ie swotty, nerdy and in love with the wrong person. In fact, I still am.

Off to jonibaz2 next - hope she likes it as much as I did.

A very entertaining comic novel. Lots of laughs, great on 80's student politics and being an older teen. I'll reserve this for my son before releasing it.
