If you enjoy lots of action, magic, sorcerors (and sorceresses), romance, and great characters, then you'll love the Sword of Truth series. Since reading the first book in this series, Wizard's First Rule, Goodkind has become one of my absolute favorite fantasy authors. His books are very fast-paced and always leave you wanting more.

I recently reread Wizard's First Rule and was anxious to reread the whole series. Thank you startdustnf for your help in tracking down the second novel! I hear that the final book in this series is scheduled to come out in July, so hopefully I will have a chance to read all of the other (9!) novels in this series before then.

Wizard's second rule:
"The greatest harm can result from the best intentions."

My recap of the book:
The Keeper was thwarted at the last moment in the last book, but in doing so Richard destroyed the Towers of Perdition that had protected the New World from dream walkers. Now there is a new dream walker for the fist time in 3000 years, and he is more than happy to take advantage of the situation. He plans to rule an empire from the Palace of Light, allowing him to conquore all lands and rule them for several centuries.

I have a friend who really identified with Richard during an important time of his life. He would read this series over and over, and I can't help of thinking of him when I read this series. On the other hand despite being the love of Richard's life, I find Kahlan a little harder to identify with at times. The book really is more than the sum of it's parts though. The charcters are not perfect (which actually makes them more interesting) but weave together to form a more complex whole.

Controlled release to someone that I hear really likes Harry Potter. This series is a little different, but I hope the fantasy element appeals to her.
