From back cover: On a day in April, just after three o'clock in the afternoon, Robert Maitland's car crashes over the concrete parapet of a high-speed highway onto the island blow, where he is injured and, finally, trapped. What beings as an almost luicrous predicament soon turns into horros as Maitland -- a wickedly modern Robinson Crusoe -- realizs that, despite evidence of other inhabitants, this doomed terrain has become a mirror of his own mind. Seeking the dark outer rim of the everyday, Ballard weaves private catasatrophe into an intensely specular allegory.
Got this today, along with House Of Leaves. Thanks for sharing, now I have two Ballards to read!
Interesting scenario. Of course, my first reaction when he crashed was "why doesn't he use a cell phone?" Had to remind myself that the book was written in the '70's lol. This was enjoyable... and well, since I'm one of those weird people who doesn't always carry a cell phone with me, it's had the feel of something that *could* happen.
Thanks again for sharing, firegirl! I will set this free soon (for your own release challenge, no less)!
