Journal Entry 1 by Barnacle from Buckley, Wales United Kingdom on Sunday, February 4, 2007
This story brims with life. The core theme is the redemptive power of 'doing the right thing', even if it takes the narrator many years to reach the point where he's able to. I really enjoyed this book because of the insights into life in Afghanistan before the Russian invasion and also because of the insights into the human condition which we all share. That sounds very pompous! I guess it's a serious book but there's a lot of joy in it, grief and charm. The Kite Runner is powerful enough to move you to tears in places and make you really think about the nature of love, friendship and loyalty.

Well, I cried quite a few times whilst reading this book. I really enjoyed it and found it an interesting insight into Afghanistan life, before and after the Taliban. I would love to have seen the kite running.

Journal Entry 11 by marie-therese from Kirkintilloch, Scotland United Kingdom on Tuesday, May 15, 2007
What a wonderful book!!! I loved the characters, the insight into life in Afghanistan and Pakistan as well as life in USA away from your home, language and culture. Having lived in the Middle East for many years I enjoyed recognising some arabic phrases as well as having a glimpse of the Afghani language. Thanks so much pennywhistler for sharing this wonderful book I think the pictures it created will stay with me for a while to come. Will now PM RubyBlueLady for her address and get this moving again.

The book arrived yesterday morning.

I have avoided this book for at least a year, I usually stay away from anything too gritty and angst ridden but finally, I decided to step out of my rut and give it a go. I'm so glad I did! Ok, there are some parts of the book that I would class as gritty, but I survived and the rest made up for it. I learned so much about the people, their language, customs and lets not forget the food, my mouth watered. Thank you for sharing this delightful book, I will read more by this author now.

Will post to the next person.

Great descriptive writing from Hosseini, and a sound story line. I finished the book with tears in my eyes and a huge lump in my throat - the last quarter of the book was such a roller-coaster of emotions. At the end, though, there was hope of a happy ending and I'd like to think that we can hope that Afghanistan will one day be a happy country again.

I will PM Tanamo for their address.

I read this book on holiday so many interruptions when hubby wanted us to go out. I think if I'd been at home I'd have read it in a couple of days as it was so engrossing. A definite must-read in my opinion. I'm now going to e-mail brunton11 for his/her address so I can get it on its way.

This is one of the best books I''ve read in a while. Hosseini''s writing style is fascinating and really brought to life his characters and their lives and return to Afghanistan. I didn''t want to put it down and I''ll certainly be looking for his second book.

I''ve got elpis'' address so I''ll get the book on its way. Many thanks pennywhistler for sharing.

Thank you Pell for sharing this book. I so enjoyed it.

Reading a new author is like a fresh shower. Hosseini is a passionate powerful story-teller - tenderness and horror entwined.

Journal Entry 28 by Melamura from Montefiascone, Lazio Italy on Friday, January 23, 2009
WOW! What can I say? An absolutely brilliant book, I could not put it down. One of the best books I have read in a long time (far better than his second book - A Thousand Splendid Suns). I look forward to seeing the film at some point, although the book is usually always better. returning book to Pell.
