I had been getting a little impatient with the Alvin Maker series. Orson Scott Card is one of my most favorite writers. He regularly puts thoughtful characters through high holy hell, but the result is not usually angst-ridden. The angst quotient of the Alvin books seemed to be rising, and at first, I was worried that would continue into this installment, as Alvin continued to doubt that he was ever going to accomplish anything with all his immense power. Then the climax of the book came in a great insight about the nature of community, and left me very well satisfied.

I requested this book for my husband who is a big OSC fan. I thnik we have most of his books by now. I have read all the rest of this series and I look forward to reading this one, and, hopefully he finishes this series soon!
