Journal Entry 2 by futurecat from Christchurch, Canterbury New Zealand on Saturday, February 2, 2008
Hmm, I'm not sure whether I enjoyed this book or not. Some of it was fascinating, some gripping, but a lot unfortunately was just tedious. Maybe I just wasn't in the right mood for it.
An elderly man relates the story of his life, and his relationship with a childhood friend, Harry, who leads him to question many of his values and his way of life. Unfortunately, the narrator isn't that nice a person, even after the lessons he learns from Harry and Quaker-turned-Amish John, so I really didn't care that much what happens to him. Actually, none of the other characters were all that pleasant either, now that I come to think of it.
I'll be visiting the US in a couple of months, and may be passing through a corner of Pennsylvania in my travels, so I might keep this for release there.
