Best book I've read for ages!!!!!!!
Very poignant and thought-provoking in how ppl esp children may see things from their point of view...actually this author done a GREAT job in showing the thoughts and how a situation seemed from almost all of the characters point of view. Great job of depicting the turn of the century Australia and a bit of the countryside too!
NOTE: This author is an Australian author who has done a fantastic job writing this book and she deserves more recognition than being shoved on the $4.95 rack! This is not a bodice-ripper...this is ghosty mystery and historical fiction!
Only criticism I would have is the name of the house.
From the covers of this book:-
'THE PAST WILL NOT BE DENIED...
"There's bad things in this house, Alice, things you want to keep away from. Bad things, do you hear me?"
At the turn of the last century, Alice is a 12-year-old servant girl at Colonsay, the big house on the Victorian coast belonging to wily political strategist Cosmo Cunningham and his beautiful young wife Ambrosine.
In the present day, Rosamund becomes the reluctant inheritor of Colonsay, her childhood home. But as the extensive renovation work begins, odd things start happening: a thumping in the empty attic that dislodges plaster from the ceiling of the room below. A lingering scent of honeysuckle. Then the building crew suffer not one but two nasty accidents. And suddenly there is talk of prayers and clairvoyants and messages from the dead...
What terrible secret lies within Colonsay? Can Rosamund make peace with the past - and free her own future?
A gripping story of long-ago love and present justice from the author of The Glass House and The Dark Dream.
This folks is to be sent out on a Ray...hopefully a long one.

Sent off to BellaMack in Tasmania the first person on this BookRay - enjoy!
Received today, many thanks, have a few books to get through before this one but will finish it asap
This is definitely one of the best books I've read in a while too Hearth-Crafter. I don't think I can add anything more than has been written about it. Thank you so so much for giving me the opportunity to read it. Very much looking forward to your next book in your double bookring by this author. Will post on to amberC when I have read the second book.
Arrived today, after being delayed by flooded roads.
I too have to say a wonderul book. I loved the alternating sections, t5hen parrelling of past and present and the way they both slowly drew to their climax. It was two great stories in one book.
I will be posting this on when I have finished the other book in this ring.

received today, thanks amberC and Hearth-Crafter :o)
I'm a little backlogged at the moment but I'll try not to sit on this book for too long.

I had trouble getting into this book at first (I suspect because I had just read the other Lilly Sommers book accompanying it) but I was well and truly wrapped up in the events at Colonsay before I finished it this evening.
Thanks again Hearth-Crafter for sharing - I have Playtheman's address already and I'll send both books on tomorrow.

very interesting book. Lily Sommers certainly gives a glimpse into the historical past - this comment applies to her other book *Where Shadows Fall* which is also on its way by ship to Portugal. This book has a pleasing finale:}

WOW!!! What a book! What a ride! This is one of the best books I've ever read! I actually *was* there!
The story is awesome, the writing is excellent, I have no words to describe it... It's just WOW!!!
The switch between the past and the present is perfectly timed! I just loved it!
I'm looking forward to read the other book :P
Thank you, Hearth-Crafter! :D

Now THIS is more like it - ten times better than When Shadows Fall. The story was gripping, the characters were believable and well drawn and the switches in time were very well done.
It was a scary story, but very moving in parts - and there was a nice twist which I didn't see coming.
I agree with you about the name of the house though, HearthCrafter - what was she THINKING of calling it that!?
Thanks so much for putting this book my way. It's now on its way to Bug2004.

Re'cvd today..will get to asap. Thanks!
What a fun ride!!! I really enjoyed this one! Just a good old fashioned ghost story...not terribly unique, not terribly the same as all the rest. Easy and fun to read!!!
I thought the storyline ended up being a bit predictable, but it didn't ruin the ride one bit!!
Thanks so much for sharing this one and I do apologize for being tardy w/ it. :) It's off to Loriped!!!

Received this book in the mail today, but I just started another "ring" book. This one and its traveling partner will have to wait for a little bit.
I just finished this book last night. I really enjoyed the style of the book with both stories unfolding simultaneously. The author's ability to end each segement in a place that leaves you hanging really added to the climax of the stories.
Thanks for sharing the books. I will be contacting Hearth-Crafter to see what she has in mind for these two books.

.. and this one here has also safely arrived in Bavaria!
looking forward to read it!
looking forward to read it!
Well, I have finished that one, too.
I liked it but obviously not as much as the other readers here...
There were so many people/stories in there that I wondered at the beginning who's the main character and
what will develop...
But the end caught me as well and I had to read it in one flourish :-)
Will send it to Sarahmuh with its travelling twin!
