Hope you enjoy the book!
Arrived safely yesterday. Thank you shnedwards for sending it. Looking forward to making a start on this tomorrow :-)
I haven't read anything by Paul Auster before, but his is a name I keep coming across more and more often, and I am glad to have the chance to read this book. Thanks to shnedwards for organising the bookring!
I have to say that I found it a great read - I hesitate to say that I enjoyed it, given the bleak and undoubtedly dark nature of the series of events that shape Hector's life, and indeed that of David. I became totally absorbed in this skilful and densely-plotted novel.
The ending, which comes as a surprise, is just right, and the reader is left wondering, and also thinking, as with the best novels....
I already have arturogrande's address, and will be sending this on later in the week.
Updated today 16.03.07 to add that the book is now on its way to Leicestershire. Posted at 10:00am to arturogrande.

Arrived safe and sound - thanks very much. I've got another ring book ahead of this, but I'm planning to get to this one quickly.

This is also my first Paul Auster novel, but on the strength of this, it certainly won't be my last. The interwoven strands of David and Hector's lives, and the tragedies and losses they suffered, were perfectly balanced and the writing was so perfect that they wove seamlessly in and out without ever becoming confusing.
The ending was unexpected and heartbreaking, although there was the slightest glimmer of hope.
Thanks for sharing this wonderful book with me - it's now on its way to rumble-bee.

rumble-bee here - thank you everyone for sending this along to me!
This will be my second book by Paul Auster. We read "City of Glass" at university, and I liked it. His writing is like magic; you never know quite for certain what'll be next.
I am not sure when I will have time to read this, though; there are two or three urgent rings before this. If anyone gets impatient, please contact me, so I can speed up my reading schedule.
